Walking Away From Million-Dollar Mortgages - NYTimes.com

"More than one in seven homeowners with loans in excess of a million dollars are seriously delinquent, according to data compiled for The New York Times by the real estate analytics firm CoreLogic.


By contrast, homeowners with less lavish housing are much more likely to keep writing checks to their lender. About one in 12 mortgages below the million-dollar mark is delinquent."

Loopnet, the commercial listing website, is showing an increase in prices for office space in Fayette County that is bucking the trend seen generally in metro Atlanta and the rest of the state.  Is Fayette County leading the way to recovery or are we just out of touch?

Buycott BP

Just filled up again at BP.  I want like to make sure that BP continues to have revenues so that they can afford to cap the well and repair the damage along the Gulf Coast.  


The people that are boycotting BP gas stations have not thought this through.  If anything we should be employing a Buy-cott to support BP while both BP and US are in peril.  My 2 cents...

Changes in accounting rules would require companies to put leases on their balance sheets as Liabilities and Assets. At present, according to this NY Times article, "American and foreign companies list many leases as footnotes in their financial statements".

Congress Passes

The House and Senate have passed two pieces of legislation affecting the Real Estate Industry:


Homebuyer Assistance and Improvement Act (H.R. 5623). The June 30, 2010 closing deadline has been extended to September 30, 2010 The extension applies only to transactions that have ratified contracts in place as of April 30, 2010 that have not yet closed.  The legislation is designed to create a seamless extension the new closing deadline for eligible transactions is now September 30, 2010.  There is will be no gap between June 30 and the date the President signs the bill into law.  I'm at a loss why contracts executed by April 30 still need time to close.

Additionally, the United States Senate has passed the National Flood Insurance Program Extension Act of 2010 (H.R. 5569).  This extension is only to September, so time's a-wastin'.
